TBM 5.0  &  FOCUS 1.2 Updates

The TBM Council has just released TBM Taxonomy 5.0, a major revision designed for the modern enterprise. Key enhancements include:

• AI & Cloud-Native Integration: AI workloads (e.g., GPU training/inference) and hybrid/cloud native technologies are now modeled explicitly, not lumped into generic categories.
• Advanced Cost Categories: Adds discrete modeling for SaaS/PaaS, data, analytics, security, risk, and sustainability/ESG .
• Labor Attribution: Developer, security, and data-team labor costs can now be mapped directly to services and value streams.
• Standards Alignment: Improved integration with CSDM, FAIR, NIST, and edge/OT systems.

 TBM 5.0 gives CIOs and CFOs a robust structure for aligning tech investments, including AI, security, and sustainability to business outcomes and value.

The FinOps Foundation just ratified FOCUS 1.2, extending its schema to incorporate SaaS, PaaS, and streamline the month-end close proces. 

 Main highlights include:

• Cloud+ Scope Expansion: SaaS and PaaS billing now integrated with IaaS in one normalized schema

• Invoice-Level Reconciliation: Adds an InvoiceId field for precise alignment between billing data and invoices
  
• Granular Allocation: BillingAccountType and SubAccountType allow shared or departmental cost allocation 
• Multi-Currency & Virtual Currency Support: Normalizes across currencies and token-based billing (e.g., credits, DBUs) 
• Multi-Provider Engagement: All major cloud vendors are onboard (AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle, Alibaba, Databricks and Grafana)
  

 FOCUS 1.2 establishes a unified, auditable billing schema across all cloud and platform services, eliminating hidden spend and accelerating governance.
